Price Hike of Essential Commodities
Staff Reporter, Dhaka, 8 May : The prices of daily commodities are increasing rapidly. Yesterday at the time of visiting different markets of Dhaka city, the reporter finds that the price of every thing has gone up to even 2, 3 or 10 ten taka per kg.
All previous records of high prices have already been broken. Rice, fish, meat, chicken, edible oils, and vegetables are being sold at exceedingly high prices. The buyers were mostly middle class people who are service holders. It is becoming very difficult for them to cope up with the increasing prices. Their incomes are very limited. They come to the markets with a fixed amount of money. But they can't buy all the essential things according to their needs. It is so tough for them to maintain their budgets. Last week the fine rice was 50 tk/kg but this week it has become 60 tk/kg. One liter of soybean oil, sold at Tk.120 one month back, is now being sold at Tk. 130. Similarly the price of kerosene oil now brings sufferings to the villagers. Yesterday fire was seen in the fish market. Once the Bangalees were famous for rice and fish. But today the common people have forgot the taste of fish. The government has already made open sale arrangement of rice to check the price hike and as such it is now under control. But the prices of sugar, washing soap, onion, garlic, spices, and some other necessary items are still beyond the purchasing capacity of the common people. If this trend of rising prices cannot be controlled, the people of low income group will not be able to buy their daily necessaries and so they will suffer from untold sufferings.
The people expect that the authority concerned would look into the matter and take necessary strict measures so that the prices of essential commodities remain within the reach of their buying capacity.
Bad Effect of Facebook on Young Generation
Staff Reporter, Dhaka, 05 April : Facebook is one of the greatest social media in recent times, but it is not free from the bad impacts. It is degrading millions of young people including teenagers morally.
According to Larny D. Rosen, Professor of Psychology at California State University, the effects of social media are becoming more and more visible. Some of their findings suggest that the more time spent on Facebook is related to a greater tendency towards narcissistic behaviors among teenagers. Also, it has been discovered that young adults who spend excessive amount of time on Facebook show more signs of other psychological disorders, including antisocial behaviors, mania, and aggressive tendencies. Additionally, studies have showed that excessive daily use of social media can negatively affect the health of children, parents, and teenagers alike as they are more prone to anxiety, depression, and other psychological disorders. Furthermore, school grades suffer much when students spend too much time on Facebook as their valuable study time is lost. Besides, some studies suggest that so-called teenage "hyper social networkers" are more likely to engage in risky behaviors, such as smoking, drinking, drug use, fighting and promiscuity. It is a matter of great concern that the young generation of the developing countries are gradually being addicted to social media especially Facebook.
However, none of us knows the later impact of Facebook on our future young generation of developing countries like Bangladesh. So, parents must be conscious about the use of social media by their teenage boys and girls.
