সুপ্রিয় ২০২১ সালের এইচএসসি পরীক্ষার্থী বন্ধুরা, শুভেচ্ছা নিয়ো। আজ তোমাদের ইংরেজি দ্বিতীয় পত্রের প্রশ্ন নম্বর-১৬ থেকে আরো ১টি Composition Writing নিয়ে আলোচনা করব। তোমরা Compositionটি কয়েকটি প্যারায় লিখতে পারো। তবে Compositionটি অবশ্যই তথ্যবহুল হতে হবে।

Reading Newspaper

Man has an inborn curiosity to know the unknown and to see the unseen. The newspaper is the best medium to meet this curiosity. Newspaper is the storehouse of knowledge. It is the mirror of the whole world. Sitting in our room, we can know the condition of the whole world by reading newspaper. The social, economic, cultural and political situations of a country can be known through a computer. So, Carlyle called it ‘the fourth Estate’. Many people now begin their day in the morning in the breakfast table with a newspaper. Newspaper now has become the part of our daily life.

Newspaper is a paper that carries the news of the whole world. It was first published in China. Venice in Europe was the first to bring out newspaper.  ‘The Samachar Darpan’, the first Bengali newspaper was published in 1818. Now newspapers have made much progress. Newspapers are of various kinds. They are dailies, bi-weeklies, weeklies and monthlies. The daily newspapers contain the news of the daily affairs of the world. Daily newspapers are very popular among the readers. 

The main object of a newspaper is to supply news. Modern newspapers have a wide range of subjects to meet different interests. Greater space is devoted to political and economical news because they are of common concern. Newspaper is useful to all types of people. It has brought the whole world into our drawing room. By reading newspaper, a businessman can know the condition of the world business, a player can know the news of sports, a student can know the information on different topics. Besides, the employment seekers get useful information about their jobs. Newspapers are the best media of advertisement. Businessmen can draw the attention of the consumers through the advertisements published in the newspapers. By reading newspaper, a person can also know the plans of the government, new bills and laws. At present newspapers serve multifarious purposes. There are problem pages in the newspapers where the problems of the readers about their personal life, job, health, beauty and legal matters are discussed.  

Newspaper has a great educative value. It is the cheapest means of mass education. By reading newspaper a person can enrich his language and increase vocabulary. Today many newspapers contain special pages for the students where their textual problems are discussed.

Newspaper also helps to form public opinion. Editorials and sub-editorials reflect different views on the current topics     reflect different views on the current topics. Newspaper also contains letters of the readers on different topics such as political, economic, government plans, development etc. The government can also have an idea about the public opinions from the newspapers. Thus newspapers can play a vital role in establishing democracy in the country.

But sometimes the newspapers publish false news or rumour. This is called yellow journalism. Some newspapers are owned by businessmen and political parties who publish news to gratify their own interests.  The readers should be careful of those newspapers at the time of reading them. Reading newspaper is a good habit. It can build up an educated and cultured nation.
